The Thick of It - Series 2

One of the cleverest and best shows on TV.

Spoiler

The build-up to Malcolm's downfall throughout this series has been fantastic. The dramatic tension really differentiates it from the first series, and it's definitely moving into tragicomedy territory. David Haig's character was just horrendous. I loved his line about Malcolm going "from Simon Cowell to Piers Morgan". That was probably the funniest line of the episode for me. "Obsessive Repulsive Disorder" sums him up perfectly. The rapport between Haig and Capaldi was amazing. If Capaldi doesn't get acknowledgement at the BAFTAs for his performance, something is very wrong.

I can't believe how quickly this series has gone by. One episode left. blah.

I love The Thick Of It, but isn't this the third series?

Nevertheless, I actually felt on the verge of having a panic attack during the last episode. The world just didn't feel right after watching it. What would we do without Malcolm?!
Good news, everyone!

"Oh, I'd like to do some more [of The Thick Of It]," he insists. "I've got thoughts about where it could go next year."

Yeah, you're probably right, strictly. I was considering the first two 'series' as being part of a single series, as there were two batches of three which pretty much roll into each other and the 'complete series one' DVD includes both AFAIK.

Bump

Just a reminder that it's half an hour until the final episode - and if last week's is anything to go on, it's not going to be one to miss!
Tom Hollander was hilarious in this episode.
Oh, and so was Julius Nicholson. That man just is funny, whatever he does.

"I am the man who makes the bhaji go away."

Fantastic ending to the series, and nicely set up for an election special :awesome:

YES! It's great to see him in this series, especially in such a different role to In the Loop.

David Haig gave the best performance in that episode, I think. "SORRY, I LOST MY TEMPER! WHERE IS IT?" He's so slimy and repugnant.

Hopefully the inevitable election special will see the return of Jamie. I missed him in this series.

Oh yeah, the series might yet again be strangely prophetic:

Haha I saw that link on Twitter :yep:

Oh man I missed Jamie so much this series, and not just because I find him oddly attractive. "EAT THE CHEESE, NICHOLSON!"

Favourite quotes from the episode? I particularly enjoyed "IT'S THE ECONOMY, STEW POT!" and "Hello, Phillip Scholfield, I **** lobsters for money".

"I pulled an all nighter. Black coffee and Vivaldi on the iPod Touch."

So very funny..
"Now it's the colour of the ******g BBC weather map. It looks like anaemic dog****."

"These are the kind of ****s who watched Mandela walk to freedom, and said 'is Diagnosis Murder not on the other side?'"

The parallel motivational speeches by Malcolm and Cal were amazing. I can't wait to watch this again.
Oh God. That speech Malcolm gave at the end. I think I'm in love with him.

It was bound to happen - there's no way they can let such an amazing show go after just two 'full' series. Fantastic news, though! What we really need now is an election special... :holmes:
Can't wait for the next series. Ianucci said he's toying with the idea of a 3rd party, alluding to the Lib Dems
