Wouldn't the answer be two, because 6/9 = 2/3 therefore the scale factor from ED to BC is 2/3 therefore ED should be 2
Edit: if you look at the picture, it's impossible that ED will be larger than BC as AD is shorter than AC so it can't be 4.5.
Am I missing something here?

The ratio of AB to AE is equal to the ratio of AC to AD.

9/6 = 12/(6+|ED|)

=> |ED| = 2
