I guess I am another mature student, although seems scary saying that given that I am 25. I am studying MSc Information Management and Preservation, or to give it a slightly less confusing title, MSc Archives and Record Keeping.

I moved up from Doncaster yesterday and have moved into Kelvinhaugh Gate halls. I don't know the city at all and I don't know anyone here. I've met a couple of my house mates who seem nice, but maybe not the drinking type.

Like most of you, I'd be more than happy to meet up for a drink some time.

Hi everyone. Good luck with moving in! I am so nervous, I cannot sleep. I am worried about who I will be living with and if I will make friends etc. I know this is probably the same for idleness too but I just keep worrying! It is part of my nature. A lot of people are really excited and I just seem to be a bit of a nervous wreck! Sorry to sound so negative! Roll on being there. I have not bought my freshers pass yet but I suppose that is a way to meet people.

I hope all goes well for everyone and you get settled in ok! xxx

Forgive me for posting again so soon, but I just saw this and thought I would reply. I am like you. I am freaking out. I am here and everyone seems nice, and my house mates seem nice but they don't seem all that social. I guess its only normal given its the second day we've been in the flat, I'm just worried that I won't meet anyone here.

Hi, I completely agree, they are really nice, I am the only British person, this does not bother me, but I worry that I may be at a disadvantage plus my halls are nearer to Caley and Strathclyde. I hope things improve for you! This is my first day in the flat. My dad is staying in Glasgow for a couple of nights in a hotel. I will try to speak to my flatmates some more I am just not sure that I am their type of person.

I am not the only British one in my flat, there is one more, and she is from Scotland. But, she works in the halls of residence office and is also studying, so my guess is that she is here because she has to be, and I've not seen much of her.

My halls are fairly close to the University, which I guess is good. I have worried that it would be a disadvantage to me, but I am sure once University starts I will meet more people, and I feel you will be in the same boat.

I am trying to look at it in this way. I have a nice room with pleasant people and I don't have to worry about the bills and if anything goes wrong it will get sorted fairly soon. I feel I will be more social with my course mates than I will with ym flat mates, but surely that isn't a bad thing.
yeah, i think that once classes get going things will fall in to place. i'm happy just to enjoy settling into the room this weekend and exploring the windy streets. it's a lovely area.

the union types are already starting to piss me off though. no, i don't want to join the badminton club:biggrin:

Well, at least you have housemates. I moved in on Tuesday and didn't have anyone else move in until Friday. I'm in 119 G/2 btw

Let it usually have loads of places for students around the west end. Kelvinbridge area is quite popular with students.
Hey everyone, well I have moved in and seem to have the same issue as everyone else here - all my flatmates are confined in their rooms, no kind of socialising seems to be going on and I haven't even bumped into anyone in the kitchen yet  I'm not too bothered as it's my first night and I just wanted to get unpacked and settle in, which I have done.

Hey all,

If anyone is interested in meeting up with a 23 year old, male, Scottish student who is commuting from the east then feel free to drop me an email at [email protected]

Hi everyone, maybe a meet up would be a good idea! I am in uni today for my induction. I am going to get a freshers pass and sign up for a few things. Lots of people are raving about kassidy so I will be going along as long as I can get my pass. My flatmates are very pleasant, I kind of feel a bit out of it though as they were here almost a week before I arrived.

I am officially on my own now as my dad is off to visit family near Edinburgh. I just want classes to start so I get to know people. Well I hope I get to know people.

Hiya guys!

I'm 26 and going in to my 2nd year. Keen to come along to anything you folks are doing though as didn't meet many people last year!

I can't make the scottish showcase thing cos I'd made plans, but how many people would be up for the

BIG QUIZ THINGIE on Weds in QMU at 7PM?

I think it would be an awesome way to get to know each other a bit and also to drink booze!

Also, there is a Mature students union which is quite active and has a lovely clubhouse with a kitchen, lounge, quiet study area, small computer room and a bookable private study room with a computer. It is £10 for the year. They usually have a freshers party on the Friday but I can't find any info online about it. Keep an eye out for them at the freshers fair!

If anyone wants to buddy up to go to the freshers fair this week, or the sports fair (eg free sailing afternoon on Thursday, I'm up for that!) say so on the forum and maybe we can get something organised.

Really good idea, I'm up for this too.
I've been meaning to check out the mature students union as well, I'll probably try to get down sometime this week.

Thank you for setting up the page. I would like to come along to the quiz tomorrow night and meet some of you fellow mature students.
