Does anyone know how much more standing a degree from Imperial College London compared to from Manchester from an employers perspective?

If your aim is to become a scientist after graduation, it will make very little difference whether you have attended Manchester or Imperial. The degree classification you get at the end is what's most important. If you choose Imperial though, you may be at an advantage if you decide to go into something like finance.

Thanks for your reply, I am yet to see Imperial so I am holding off my final decision until then, but its going to be tough one as I fell in love with Manchester when I went there for the open day. I am planning either to go into research or into forensic investigation, I know forensics is very competitive but do you know which they would prefer?

Conditional Offer from king's today OMFG how did it happen lol AAB required
I thought king's was gonna ignore me lol MY PREDICTED GRADE WAS BBA LOL (doing fastrack) after 2 years of being wasteman
I will work my ass off from today although AAB is very hard for a not so clever guy like me lol
Still no words from cardiff, southampton or queen's mary

That's really cool! I got an offer from King's too, the day after I applied, and I was pretty surprised to have an offer because even though my predicted grades are AAB, my AS grades from last summer are BBD! (I could've gotten a C,b ut I was short of 2 UMS marks)
Anyway I'm behind with my studies so now I'm just studying all day long! So I guess we're almost on the same boat
Congrats and good luck.

GCSE ( Spanish ESO): 2009-2010 I got six 10*/10 and four 10/10
AS (1st year of Spanish Baccalaureate): 7 10/10 and 2 9/10 (Philosophy and Sciences for Contemporary Society)
A2 (2nd year of Spanish Baccalaureate) predicted: 10/10
I've applied to York, UCL, Bristol, Bath and Surrey.
I'm from Spain that's why I have more subjects LOL.
How long have you waited till get an answer?!
Offers from Aberyswyth, Keele, Nottingham trent, Nottingham uni and Leeds uni. but dont know whether to firm Leeds or Nottingham.

Having lived in Leeds and Nottingham, I can definitely recommend Nottingham as a city if it comes down to that (also their student accommodation is quite nice if you haven't seen it )
offers from sheffield, nottingham, leeds, leicester and UEA, accepted sheffield

yea man good luck to you too. I will be resitting some paper in summer. Today's chemistry paper (ocr) was insane.

omg ccea's chemistry was absolutely deadly as well  so different from the old papers, lots more practical and weird stuff. none of the bankers like ionisation energy or electronegativity! well it was friday 13th...
Does anyone know what type of questions they ask in informal interviews?
Thanks

"Why do you want to do biochemistry?" is probably a cert. And don't say because you like biology and you like chemistry lol.

Also be prepared to answer question on your personal statement about any work experience, books you've read etc.

Where is it for?

Got an offer from Bath last week, it took them nearly 2 months but I was bouncing off the ceiling when it came through

I'm a first year doing Sheffield Biochemistry so feel free to ask any questions. All I'll say is that the department is excellent, v. organised and the lecturers are passionate and engaging. So far we've been studying a mix of biochemistry, genetics and microbiology to gain a solid grounding in all the molecular biosciences. All of these subjects are interlinked but in second year you'll specialise in biochem.

I didn't apply to York but I understand that their course is more chemistry based so you'll share your lectures between the biology and chemistry departments. Both unis are v. good for the subject so you'll do well at whichever one you choose- I think we're ranked 3rd in the country this year. Imo Sheffield is a better student city as you've got a better nightlife, amenities, the big student villages and if you want to get away from it all, the peak district is on your doorstep.

Is there much chemistry at all in the sheffield course? as in, is any of it taught by the chem department? Cos im loving the feel of sheffield but im a bit worried that the biochem course isnt really biochem but mainly biology :frown:

None of the course itself is taught by the chemistry department but you will is find that there is a fair amount. In first year we have covered the chemistry of amino acids, atomic orbital hybridization, ionization states etc and had a lecture series on physical chemistry which was v. challenging.
Is anyone going to the cardiff post-offer day on the 2nd of feb? if so,do you have the time we have to be there for? trying to book my train ticket, but I don't have the info with me!

Thankfully there is no ecology/environment work......the topic I hated with a passion in A level Biology  You'll have an awesome time in Sheffield but it's worth knowing that our course is a lot more intense than other ones so you do have to put in the hours to keep up with it all. Still, loads going on outside of lectures and there are so many opportunities to get involved in extra-curric activities/trips abroad/volunteering or whatever you are interested in really
do you pretty much have a full time table at sheffield? can't wait to go there

Offers from Leicester, Nottingham and Southampton. Been invited to informal interviews at both Kent and Lancaster
Going to firm Leicester when I have all my offers in, and hopefully get Kent as my insurance. Amazed I'm getting so many offers.

When is you're interview at Lancaster?
