active immunity is where you are immune to a specific disease such as chicken pox as you are injected and increases concentration of white blood cells.

nope 0 marks, active immunity is where, there is exposure to foreign antigens and your own body produces antibodies. in active immuunity memory cells are also produced, in your answer you were ambiguous and didnt differentiate it with passive immunity

Apologies meant similarities between collagen and haemoglobin. Differences is far far easier :P

similarities
-are quaternary protein
-found in animals.
presence of hydrogen bond

can you ask me more questions
3 roles of CITIES

Sure, just keep doing question for question then.

-Ban international trade on endangered species or products that come from them (e.g. elephant ivory).
-Raise awareness of threats to biodiversity by education.
-Make it illegal to hunt endangered species.

Describe how malaria is transmitted to humans. [4]

this is completely random but I just found a question in the textbook which, without the mark scheme I don't know how I would have answered: "Explain why a habitat with more diversity is thought to be more stable." The answer is:
-More diversity = greater species richness
-Each species relies on a number of others, not just one
-If one species is affected by some change, then others may be less effected
-A species that is dependent on the one that has been effected will have others to fall back on

That's helpful, thanks

Ok can someone come up with a good set of bullet point notes of advantages and disadvantages of ex situ , in situ and seed banks. Maybe like 4 points for each , so we can always use those points for any related exam question

In Situ

Pros
- Maintain the animal in their natural habitat
- No issues with breeding them in their habitat
- No behavioral changes in them, maintains their culture
- Facilitate scientific research

Cons
- Tourists litter and feed animals
- Competition between individuals
- Poachers killing and capturing the animals

Ex Situ

Pros
- No competition
- Protection from poachers/predators
- Maintain and monitor health of animal
- Provide with a good supply of food

Cons
- Animal may not breed in captivity
- Can cause a change in behavior and it cannot integrate back into the wild
- Limited space may cause a reduction in genetic diversity

Seed Banks

Pros
- Store loads of seeds at once from many species
- Less susceptible to disease
- Cheap to transport and store, necessary conditions aren't required
- Extracting seeds doesn't damage habitat much
- Survives for a long time

Cons (Not many really)
- Seeds can deteriorate if stored for too long

Ya i also saw this question somewhere.

role of rio convention?

To develop international strategies on the conservation of biodiversity.
To provide guidance to governments on conservation of biodiverty.
To make it part of international law that conserving biodiversity is everyones responsibility.

Explain what In Situ and Ex Situ conservation is. [4]

- more representative
-prevents bia
-reduces anomolies

not reduce anomolies because sampling can identify any type of species.. it would be something along the lines that if we dont random sample we can over/under estimate population of a certain species therefore it wont be represenatiable....

your turn

so will i get 2 marks?

Ok Define:hierarchy

because not closely related have different characterisitcs and differences in DNA and cytochrom c sequencing

I mean like how to go from species to genus-family-order-class-phylum-kingdom
why level of relatedness decrease?

In-situ conserving species in their natural habitat and Ex-situ conserving species by activities outside their normal environement
do u need the adv and dis?

Nope, true in any subject. I definitely got a question wrong in January but I got full UMS, for example.

btw do you want to apply for Medicine or something Biological? Cos the amount you know the content is terrifyingly amazing, and I thought I was quite prepared

Yeah, I'm going for Medicine, Biology is my most annoying subject, I quite like Chemistry but I revise Biology loads

due to differences in characterisitcs ? and sequencing and observable feautres sorry did not get the question

oh gosh.. no idea..

it is a large group which is subdivided into smaller groups of organisms
