Oh come on. Surely you can divide by 2?

I have about haven't I, I put the factorised the expression by 2.

Unless I'm doing something wrong please tell me.

It does if you picture the invisible brackets

Minus 18 times x^2 is NOT 18x^2, even with brackets

We will not be sat next to you in the exam

You should not need to check the easy bits with us

oh that line

I though you meant the next wrong line
Original post by zed963

These two expressions are not equivalent.

Well I know that you're not going to be there when I'm doing the exam.

It's not like I'm the cleverest guy on Earth.

I am trying to learn.

You should stop putting my self confidence down and let me learn things that I want to learn.

Atleast I'm persevering.

All I'm asking for is a little help and if you can't steer me in the right direction then that's up to you but please don't knock me down.

You may think it's easy but in reality all the people don't think like you.

I am not knocking you ... I am explaining why MrM said "surely you can divide by 2"

But ... sure if my help is unsupportive I will move on

I think we have been more than patient but the line I just complained about included 2×18=322 \times 18 = 32

So what should it be

TBH I think this is a bit offensive

however ... as I said ... I will leave you to the help of others

So do you just want me to divide the whole expression so that it becomes 91x2+118x+1891x^2+118x+18 or 2(91x2+118x+18)2(91x^2+118x+18)
Original post by zed963
So what should it be

The effect of the negative 18 outside the bracket is to multiply each term inside the bracket by 18 and CHANGE the SIGNS.

So you are perfectly happy that 2×18=322 \times 18 = 32 then?

Sorry if you find it offensive, my point is that not everyone is good at everything and I'm kind of getting frustrated because I've been on this question for about an hour it's kind of p******* me of. That's why I resulted in such a response.

This is difficult enough without going back about five steps steve. I will leave you to it.

Second

Are you inventing quadratics to factorise ?

ONLY some quadratics factorise , you can't just write down any old quadratic and expect to factorise.
