The Student Room Group

i am in my 2nd year of study but have never applied for a student account, I wasn't aware that they existed! My student loan is paid into my natwest current account and so I applied on line for a student account but was informed that I was not eligible. Any ideas why this is and does this mean I will never get a student overdraft??? Hoping somebody can advise

Hello KPLANT,

With student current accounts, some banks prefer to open such accounts with evidence that you're actually a student.

I would recommend application for a student account in branch along with evidence from the university that you're a student, such as a letter on headed-paper would usually suffice.

Don't forget to take in photographic ID along with any documentation showing your current address.
