Contemporary Geographical Issues in Africa

Basically, I have to write an article based upon "Contemporary Geographical Issues in Africa", and I have chosen to write about Cities and the urban issues they face. More specifically, Lagos in Nigeria. I wondered what issues they face, and possible solutions to the issues. The problems can be based on the weather/climate, Conflicts, Plate-Tectonics etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

- growing population- a problem because most people are poor, this means they will live in slums, this is an issues, as people here have bad health, high crime rates etc. You could use a case study as an example.
- Inequalities - big divide between rich and poor people
- Global warming means farm land is lost, Deserts expand. Sahara expands 48km a year, loss of food for urban population
- loss of Biodiversity, such as the rainforest in central africa, through people cutting trees.
- water issues, also the effects of so called solutions , eg Dams have slowed down rivers, and made them more polluted.
