Does this ad suggest rape and should it have been banned?

A CONTROVERSIAL ad by fashion designers Dolce and Gabbana suggesting gang rape has been banned from Italian publications.

Last Saturday, 13 Italian senators and Equal Opportunity Minister Barbara Pollastrini demanded in a joint letter to the IAP that the ad be withdrawn from circulation.

It suggests kinkiness. It's hilarious that these people think holding someone down is rape. It's almost as if they have no idea what sex is. Probably virgins.
9 times out of 10 women probably would find this kind of thing against them sexy
women in our culture like dominant men, they like men to protect them, etc, and this is a demonstration of their expectations
they seem to like men who take contol - and that's exactly what this guy's doing (symbolically); it's got nothing to do with sex
in fact it's obviously got nothing to do with rape because the woman is looking into the camera smirking!

Lol they all look like wax models.

I suppose the fact that it looks like he's holding her down and there are 3 guys watching on looking "ready", it possibly could be seen as rape suggestive. Whether that was the intent I don't know but it is a bit weird either way.

Voyeurism or group sex, yes
Rape, no

I am not sure who D&G see as their demographic if this is how they choose to advertise

I normally thinking controversy over these sort of things is ridiculous, but that picture does look pretty rapey.
The woman's hips are thrusted out towards her "attacker". No, this is not rape.

inb4 "teh patriarchy is tricking her into it" stock argument.
Also if this is meant to be about a power fantasy and rape is meant to be about power, why is the advert advertising this power fantasy with the woman not looking as if she doesn't want to be there or scared? She seems as plastic as the rest of them. How do you rape something which is plastic?
I just attempted that pose she's doing and fell over :frown:.

Definitely not rape! People do not understand what rape is! Rape is penetrating somebody! This picture does not convey the aforementioned and thus, cannot be rape. It isn't even a sexual touch, as the guy is holding the girls wrist, it has no indication of sexual touch. It looks kinky but in no way does it look rape.

It just looks like porn. Honestly don't know what D&G were thinking. Well I do, actually, I just don't like it.
only for too much airbrushing
Despite the context, oiled up airbrushed muscly men will always just look very gay. I really don't think this is a simulacrum of rape though.
