C3maths help!!!

Can anyone help me with this c3 maths trig.

I would ignore the fact that y could be obtuse for the moment. Draw a right-angled triangle with angle y in it. You are looking for an angle whose sine is y. This should enable you to get a much simpler answer for a) which then makes b) very straight forward.
