French novel recommendations?

Can anyone recommend any good French novels to read for fun? I'm in my 1st year of uni and I would like to try something challenging enough but not too challenging to have a go at to build up vocab. and general understanding. :smile:

Reading 'Le Parfum' atm, in preparation for the film.

Actually originally a German book, but as a French vocab goes it has loads of really interesting stuff and it's not too challenging a read. :smile:

(I read this in first year of advanced level French, so not sure how difficult it is.)

Also anything by Albert Camus, especially L'Etranger.
