alternative method help

What can be an alternative method to make sodium chloride which can have an impact atom economy? the first one i used was HCl + NaOH- NaCl + H20. So do they mean changing some substances if so what can be the substitues? thanks for any help

Na + 12\frac{1}{2}Cl2 -> NaCl
This reaction has 100% atom economy, while your original only has 76%

Na + HCl would be another, which would come out somewhere in between the 100% method and your one.

not a very 'safe' reaction though ...

There has to be some compromise between atom economy, expense and safety. Mine also wasn't safe, using pure Cl2 gas. The question was purely about atom economy though, so I answered with the reaction with the highest atom economy.
