Should society shame people who watch porn?

Food addicts (fat people) are shamed. Smokers are shamed. Drug addicts are shamed. Gamblers are shamed. Shopaholics are shamed. Alcoholics are shamed.....

Of all the major addictions which blight society, only the porn addict is spared from societal shaming.

Porn addiction is just as damaging as any other addiction. It ruins lives and destroys relationships. like the other addictions, it ages people prematurely.

Even though porn is the most shameful and degenerate of all the vices -- which is why people do it in secret -- its still considered the most socially acceptable.

This contradiction has to change if society is to combat porn addiction, and it must start with shaming porn watchers.

The question is why isn't society doing this already?

You'd have to shame like half the population of you did that unfortunately, it's a very common thing. Although tbh not that many are "addicted" I wouldn't think.
Obese people are shamed; but people who eat out on the odd occasion aren't. Alcoholics are shamed (kinda) but those who drink in moderation aren't. It's exactly the same with porn. If not excessive, watching porn is merely an enjoyable experience in which one watches consenting adults have sex. No one is directly harmed. Only when an addiction rises, a problem may appear.

Pornography isn't explicitly viewed as shameful simply because of how widespread its consumption is. Nobody can condemn it without being a hypocrite. Though it's inherently shameful and viewed as such. If somebody were to watch porn on their phone in public there would be a universally negative reaction to them doing so. There's a reason we confine pornographic consumption to darkened rooms.
Porn addiction and watching porn are not necessarily the same.

Also if porn is mainly "consumed" in private how would you know everyone who is a porn addict to shame them? Like it has been said watching porn and being an addict are two different things.
I don't see anything wrong with it. It keeps lots of women in business, it's their livelihood.

Who cares? Porn addiction =/= watching porn.

A lot of my friends watch porn. I watch porn. You can try and shame me, but I really wouldn't care and I wouldn't stop watching porn :P

It's not shameful to watch porn- it's no one else's business what someone gets off to in the privacy of their own bedroom.

Should society shame people who watch porn?

They certainly should as it is shameful and only sexist, objectifying pigs would use it.
Unless ofcourse it is a woman indulging in a kit Kat shuffle, in which case it goes without saying, it is empowering etc.:s-smilie:

Depends on what kind :colone:
It's not visible like alcoholism, or obesity and for the vast majority of those who watch it, it does very little negative harm.
No, the people that produce the content should be.

For most people I'd say it does no harm whatsoever

True
Absolutely. Anything haraam would have to go under the (inevitable) Sharia system thats on the way...
Shaming being fat, smoking, drinking, taking drugs and watching porn?

Why are British people so obsessed with trying to police the behaviour of others?
