any predictions guys????

I reckon seed-banks and zoos have a high chance of coming up.
I need help!!!

I don't know the regulatory authorities for the use of embryonic stem cell.

Can anyone explain it to me please, it may come up in the exam?

reason for regulatory of authority - to decide the max age of an embryo which is allowed for research.
- to judge what is acceptable and what isn't when researching.

Regulatory authorities...

1) Look at proposals of research to see if they should be allowed
2) Monitor and Licence research centres
3) Provide guidelines and codes of practice
4) Monitor developments
5) Give advice to governments and professionals

Hope that helps you :h:
Do we need to know the process of transpiration of water through xylem? If so can someone explain it

Independant assortment means that at the end of telophase 2 in meiosis, different combinations of chromosomes has the ability to go into different gametes. So each gamete will have a different combination of chromosomes and this leads to genetic variation.

Thank!

water vapour diffuses out of the stoma down the concentration gradient.
Water evaporates from the surfaces of cells lining the substomatal cavity.
Water replaced by means of capillary action within the cell walls
water is drawn out of the xylem
a continuous column of water is drawn up through the xylem due to the cohesion-tension theory.

No, you can find the specification here:

http://qualifications.pearson.com/content/dam/pdf/A%20Level/Biology/2013/Specification%20and%20sample%20assessments/9781446910702_GCE_Lin_Biology_Issue_6.pdf

Unit 2 starts from page 32.
Hey guys,

Have anyone got the link to the January 2015 Unit 2 paper, w/ markscheme?

No

We do need to know it.

But it's not in the spec for Unit 2 Topic 4 :s-smilie:

Can you exactly show me which specification point you are talking about?

"5 Compare the structures, position in the stem and function ofsclerenchyma fibres (support) and xylem vessels (support andtransport of water and mineral ions)."

My teacher e-mailed the exam board and asked for clarification, and they explained that we do need to know all of that (transpiration, lignification etc.) as it is part of the transport of water.

But the book has some things that we don't really need like extra knowledge.. This is not in the specification so they can't test us on it..

Oh no.. I havent learnt anything about that at all... I thought it was just that we need to know xylem vessels are used to transport water and for structural support and thats it.. We weren't taught this at school :frown:
