Lucid Dreaming

I don't know how many of you have lucid dreams, or if you know what it is, but I thought I'd see if there are any other onerionauts around here.

My first LD was around 6 months ago. I'll never forget it. I could feel everything perfectly as though it was in waking life. I could feel the grass under my feet. It lasted for probably around a whole hour. About 3 months ago I found out all about lucid dreaming, and I've been trying to do it again ever since. I've tried WILD, DILD, DEILD, FILD, MILD, etc. to no avail. I did manage to become lucid 2 days ago, but I woke up pretty much as soon as I realised I was dreaming.

So, any other LDers out there? Any advice for me to become lucid?

And to those of you who don't know what lucid dreaming is, it's basically the power to control your dreams. I can't really explain it in a sentence, but you can basically feel everything you're doing. If you fly in your dream, you'll feel the wind rushing through your hair. Everything is like real life, sometimes even more realistic. You should Google it.

I've only had one lucid dream ever in my life. I was sat in a plane looking out at the clouds/sky and for some reason I knew I was dreaming so I decided to pinch myself in my dream, and I woke up. I haven't really tried to lucid dream after that but I would certainly like to. Apparently things like writing your dreams down in notebooks straight after you wake helps. But I'm not sure, I guess I need to find out too.

Yes, that's true. It improves your dream recall. But I usually remember at least one dream per night and they're very vivid, I just don't seem to be able to realise that I'm dreaming still. I'd recommend www.dreamviews.com if you're serious about wanting to learn.

I have indeed experienced this several times, but not in a while.
It was fun
That makes sense, when you only get a couple of hours of sleep you usually go straight into a REM cycle which is when you dream. That's why many people have lucid naps.

And I know what you mean about not being able to distinguish- it's amazing how real it feels.
I've had them quite a bit, but they're not as frequent as previously. At one point in time I seemed to get them all the time and I literally felt like I was living another life in my dreams, it was really weird, it's still really vivid and it seems like a real set of experience/memories - crazy stuff.

I don't actually dream all that much but when I do dream, or remember dreaming I've noticed that I often wake up during lucid dreams and can fall back into them whereas with normal dreams that doesn't ever happen.
I've heard this too, the same goes for trying to read something in a lucid dream, the words are usually really messed up. And yeah, very few people seem to have lucid dreams, and some people who have had one don't actually know that it was a lucid dream. I think you have to have heard of it to understand it properly, otherwise it could just seem like a very vivid dream.
Don't think I've had one. Is it the one where you're normally falling down and then wake up?

That's when your astral projecting but come out of it very quickly. Well, if you believe in that sort of thing.
Ah, never had one, it seems.

No... no I do not believe in it lol
Haha I totally get you, it's a pretty specialist subject. I guess you have to experience it for yourself to get it. From a neurobiological standpoint, however, it's actually very simple. When you're dreaming, you brain relates your experiences to ones you've already had. Or if you haven't had one, it makes something up based on your own thoughts and expectations. For example, if you've never had sex, you can have lucid dream sex, and it will feel however you imagine sex will feel. I've heard this story before.

I do have dreams where suddenly I realize I am only dreaming and then I become aware that I am about to wake up and I always try desperately not to wake up because I want to stay in the dream so I can do crazy stuff like have sexy time with hotties etc and then I wake up in a few seconds. Pretty anti-climactic.:frown:
It's pretty cool  That gives you a lot of possibilities, in fact it's very good for self-exploration- you can find answers to questions you can't normally ask IRL. Sort of like meditation, but a realistic experience. I can't even imagine what it must end up feeling like in a dream, I wonder how accurate the predictions are?

I have read many times about a method which is a Christos Technique (or experiment). Seems quite interesting. But this method comes with some warnings (as in when or on what type of people it should not be used).

I've had 23 lucid dreams and counting, my last was last night, only lasted a couple of seconds. Writing down your dreams and doing reality checks are most important, such as counting your fingers etc, in your dream your hands usually look weird and you have more/less fingers than normal. Also doing WBTB (wake back to bed) and MILD. There is a section on reddit for lucid dreaming http://www.reddit.com/r/LucidDreaming/ and dreamviews as mentioned.

heres a great video explaining it
