I'm in my first year at the moment and staying in Nicholson. I love my housemates and wouldn't change for the world, but if I were to decide again it would all come down to cooking.

Which hall within the lawns firstly depends on if you want to be semi catered or cater for yourself. Downs hall is (currently) the only 'self catering' hall. Downs is nicely furbished (same decor as Morgan) with a large, mordern kitchen. Lambert, Nicholson, Reckitt and Grant have very small kitchens which are, in all honesty, pretty impossible to cook a proper meal in. Its manageable but not enjoyable. Morgan Hall is the best of both worlds as you can eat at the lawns (although its not amazing food) but also have the same sized mordern kitchen as Downs - they're also the most newly refurbished in terms of hall and room decor. I believe some of the other halls are being refurbished this year (Nicholson definately) but i'm not sure if they're being made en suite - what the change in costs will be etc and if kitchen sizes will change.

If you're basing it on what's closest to the bus stop, the order is (closest) Lambert, Nicholson, Morgan, Reckitt, Grant. It takes about 7 minutes to walk from Grant to the bus stop.

If i were you, for the kitchen alone and having the best of both worlds i'd say Morgan. There's no real definitive 'party' or 'quiet' halls as there's no certainty as to who you'll be living with, but from my experience, the louder halls tend to be smoking (whether they have smoking halls next year again i don't know because it may well change because of the smoking ban.)

As a top i'd say to definitely eat at the lawns as although the food can be at times dismal, at the start of term it tends to be okay and its how I met most of my best friends. Its a good chance to socialise outside your halls.

I hope this in some way helps. To be honest, after saying all that, there's not much in it - the lawns is a really fun place to live and almost certainly regardless of where you are you'll find a way to enjoy yourself!

You are totally forgetting Ferens:P I'm in Ferens atm and it is old and run down, but the people are quality...

I went through clearing so was stuck with what they gave me, I'd go for Morgan and Lambert as you say though, they do look the best

I am considering putting hull down for law as my insurance as i`ve fell in love with Liverpool. I am unsure of which halls to put down also tho as i have been to the law school open day but didnt get a chance to see the rooms. Do u have any photos of the kinda layout in yours at all?

LAMBERT ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!

everyone in the lawns knows that lambert halls, specificall D+E blocks are clearly the best!!! (all u in the lawns this year, go on, admit it!!!)

Lambert is getting refurbished this year aswell aparantly!
the kitchens, small as they are at the mo are fine! u can easily cook a meal in there, the ovens are a bit ****, but definately usable, you name it, and its being cooked in there, from pasta and curry, to full blown roast turkey dinners at xmas!!! and we are all still fine!!!

the bathrooms are fine aswell, deffo not a worry, only once have i had to wait for the shower, and that was at liek 2pm, if your in a rush atall tho, there is another 4 showers, and 2 baths that you could use.. and they, aswell as the toilets get cleaned daily, so cleanliness isnt a problem..

food in the lawns is acceptable, but deffo does go down hill as the year progresses, but then again it does have its moments that are lovely, however it also has some nasty nasty days... tbh tho if u jsut look u can always get a good filling meal, with a sandwich bar doing filled baguettes, jackert potatoes, always chips + veg and then the unlimited salad bar, even if u dnt wnt the crap they may be serving for a main course, i wouldnt worry. plus there is also the snack bar on a night which has cheese burgers etc forthose who miss tea, or are jsut very scared of it!

we was told when we joined that lambert is the block that when u apply i fu put u dnt mind wht time u go to bed, u r likely to get put into, as u dont have to walk past any of the other blocks, as if u was loud, late at night, waking people up all the time, people would complain, certainly tho ther is still people walkin past, just nowhere near as much as we are out etc..

also the distance to the bus stop is very short, about 30 secs to a min away, this is also the same for your meal etc, dont forget tho, when u get that late night fiid cravin in your block, and believe me you will, and you dont shotgun not going as soon as they ring up, that long treck in the early cold hours wont be fun!!!

however.... and i know lambert seems cool, and you are all about to rush n fill in the form, the warden is less than fun.... complains alot etc, but meh its all good, just dont have partys, or like us u get BIG fines, but again, its all good fun!!!

remember tho, the lawns will be the best experence of ur life, and u will love it! just make an effort put urself out there and have fun!!!! see u all in freshers week!!!!!

There are no plans to refurbish Lambert in the forseeable future as the hall is used for conferences during the summer. Any refurbishment that may happen will not be until 2010 when the other halls are finished.
