What is an enterprise university?

Plymouth Uni make no secret of the fact that they're an enterprise university however they don't explain what that means, nor can I find anything about how it would affect a university. Can anyone shed some light please? :-)

Its a general push to apply more emphasis on industry appropriate focus on subjects, rather than a traditional academic approach employed by most universities. So you will find there are more courses and research fields that are directly intertwined with industry partners (mine was partnered with the IBM Smarter Planet scheme for example). It generally leads to fields of study more appropriate to the real world, instead of focussing only within academia.
