Firstly, no, not all universities get a 5 month summer holiday. That seems very long - though many unis do have long summer holidays. I went to the University of York and there the summer break was usually about 13 weeks or 3 months (end of June to start of October).

I've look this up for you and Middlesex seem to have very odd term dates. I've found this link to their calendar: http://www.middlesex.ac.uk/aboutus/docs/acad-cal-07-08.pdf

It's very complex and I can't work out what is what really, but it's has the 2007/8 term dates on the right hand side of the lower page - hopefully knowing more about that uni, you might be able to follow it better than me to find any other info you want.

Hee hee, I pretty much do. i think my academic year ends in about March/April and since I don't have any exams this summer, just essays.

St Andrews has almost 5 months - mid-May to October so around 4.5... We have shorter christmas and easter vacations though.
