The Portland hospital- u can ask for placement in nursery nurse department. It's a private maternity hospital and a famous one!

Imperial college healthcare

South West London st George mental health

Queen Charlotte hospital

Chelsea and Westminster perinatal unit

Royal free hospital

UCLH

That's all I know but u can find more by searching the hospital name and seeing if da hospital has a perinatal/neonatal unit n go from der. Good luck and let me know what happens

Thank you 😁

The Portland hospital was the hospital the Meghan Markle gave birth to her first child
I'd like to be at the Portland hospital but it's a bit far from me so gonna try stay as close to home if I can.

I work at this hospital site (maternity suite) and in partnership with west middlesex hospital. I can pm u contact details if u like.
@Childcare_Kellie and @ILoveSunsets can you tell me:
what a typical day would be like as a Nursery Nurse/maternity support in the hospital?
Do you choose when to work?
Do you have to work weekends?
And how long are you shifts?
How many days a week do you do placement?
I'm currently working with an agency that recruits nursery nurses in London to work in nurseries around london with children aged 0-5. I get to pick what days to work.

I think I might arrange placement in a hospital setting once or twice a week if they let me for a couple of weeks. waiting for uni to send out the correct timetable

For hospital placement can you also choose when to work?

Same for me, I'll wait for the correct timetable for now and then I'll decide when to work
(edited 3 years ago)
on your cover letter, you should write what days you have university and what days you would be available to do placements. also tell them what times your available for example 8am-5pm. It's up to them if they can help

I just came back from a 12 hour shift 8am-8pm. Our shifts are on a rota system so we get a timetable when we r working. Sometimes could be working weekends and nights too. I work 3 days a week, sometimes 4 if needed. Depends what the rota says.

From what I see, nursery nurse go on home visits after baby and mum have left hospital. They participate in prenatal class. Breastfeeding support and communicating information 2 parents, administration e.g. discharging patients. They also trained in tube-feeding for premature babies and keeping record e.g. if a baby has jaundice they keep observation and They tell me (maternity support worker) or charge nurses if there's deterioration in baby health. They do care plans too.

My role consists of cannula, urine samples, and I'm supervised by a midwife. I help change newborn nappys and take their temperature, pulse, blood pressure. The list is endless. I work with mother's too. The midwife normally has a plan for me to do so everyday would be different. No 2 days r the same.

Hope this info helps!
Sounds interesting! I hope I can do experience even if it's just a week due to the Corona. I'll be sending out emails/phoning once my timetable is out

What role does a play assistant do?
in after school club they just plan activities and play with kids and supervise them until parents collect them.

hospital they work with health play specialist. depends what ward Ur on. u plan activities and help sick children understand what they're going through. so if they're having a blood test, you can show them on a doll what will happen or read a book about blood test and make them less scared
if you want to do play therapy I think they offer this course as a Master's at University of roehampton but I'm not sure what the role is fully

Hey Kellie I tried to PM you but it's not going through.
I applied for a maternity assistant (on postnatal ward) and somehow got an interview and it's part time.
Can you help me with the interview questions they may ask?

For me I'm struggling to find placement especially as their not taking students due to coronavirus
what really? have you spoken to the course leader?

I tried to email places to volunteer but theres not much available so I applied to a play assistant role and maternity assistant and somehow got an interview for both so I'll go from there.

maybe try applying for temporary nursery jobs or a part time position? did your course leader say your placement is compulsory even if there's covid?

Other students in my course are also struggling to find placement, my lecturer said that if the majority of people are unable to find placement then there will be an alternative assessment.

I did apply for a part time position but they only take qualified Early Years Educators but I'll keep trying to look for other places
