Breakdowns and drugs

If a drug addict, say a heroin or crack addict, is having a breakdown in the middle of the street, crying or screaming due to craving drugs or exhibiting psychosis, would the nhs step in to help that person?
If they were made aware, probably, but it likely depends whether its an ambulance, social services or the police who are called... most would probably call the police.
the police might get involved and call an ambulance

Someone can get sectioned if they’re considered a danger to them self or others but i’d say a person in the situation you described wouldn’t meet that criteria. A bystander can call 999 and an ambulance or possibly police would show up. I don’t know if there’s a lot they would do in reality though. Probably take them to the hospital to be checked over but if there’s nothing physically wrong with them, they’d be discharged. Maybe they’d be referred to addiction or mental health or social services if not already known to them?
