Help! I don’t get which equation the used for this question and where the 40 came from.

Help! I don’t get which equation the used for this question and where the 40 came from.
Think about what the sum from r = 1 to r = 3 must be (i.e. a1 + a2 + a3). From that, what must the sum from r = 1 to r = 6 be. And from there what must the sum from r = 1 to r = 120 be...
