Disability student allowance

Hello, anyone applied for DSA. How was the process like? Im thinking about applying for it as a cancer patient. I would appreciate getting all the help, but i would like to know other peoples experiences first
Its fairly straight forward. You have to provide some forms of evidence and then they can arrange an assessment (which you might wait a while for). During the assessment they will go through what difficulties you have and how they may be able to provide support with them. Your school may be able to help you with the application process.

Hi - hope you’re okay! I would try to apply for DSA asap - it can take a while to get the ball rolling! When you have your needs assessment done they assess what kind of software, allowances (printer etc) and other more specialised support they feel would be good for you. You get allocated a Study Skills Tutor and/or a Specialist Mentor who supports you for the duration of your university journey. I would highly recommend making sure that when you have your assessment done you are not just dished out to a- large agency but to a provider who actually cares about their students! Let me know if you need help with this - I can definitely make recommendations🙂

Hii thank you for your kind response!! Please do definitely recommend me on what's best. So, at the moment, i am still waiting for the student finance 2024 application to open, which would be at the end of march as i am aware, so then i can apply for DSA. However, before i had figured this out. I had made a call to the disability department at my chosen uni to see what supports are available, and to be honest, the lady on the line was.. i don't know how to put it.. like she kept asking me "ok what help do u need" and when i asked what help was available, she told me it depends on what i need. I tried to find out what was offered, but she didn't exactly tell me. So the conversation was cut short.. i did mention i needed extra assignment hand in time, personal tutor if possible.. i dont know what to ask for, let alone how it is done.. is it the DSA team that deals with all of that?
