A Chain Sliding Through a Tube

In this question, both the mass the the height of the rope are changing when falling, I have tried to consider the position of the center of mass relative to the top of the tube where the chain falls down but I still can't figure this out.

Consider the portion of the chain from B to D and say the mass is m1 and the whole chain of mass M.
Apply conservation of energy,
change of GPE of the m1 + the change of KE of the mass M = 0

I think this is what you need.
