But... What was his STEP offer? We all know Cambridge make three or four times as many offers as they have places for Maths. Good on him, but I wouldn't want this published if I was him.

He was probably pressured into it being published by his school and/or his parents.

I let my headmaster talk me into doing an interview with a local newspaper once at 14. The journalist ignored nearly everything I said, made up stuff and made me look like a total dork, albeit a dork that the school can be proud of (much to the joy of my headmaster, whom I subsequently told to never bother me with stuff like this again).
congratualtions to him,
it doesnt make him massively intellegent no but its still impresive.
if it makes him happy then its all good =]

and people have finished degrees much earleir aint they =]

also/ he may well be 17 by the time he gets there unless my brain aint working well.

and alot of people go to uni at 17.

=]

well done to him tho. impressive

I wish I had his abilities :frown:
But like mollymustard pointed out, he won't have much of a social life - he is so young!

He looks like that kid everyone made fun of in the playground, and you just laughed along when it was happening.

Awesome. If I could have gone to university three years ago I would have done so without a doubt.

Nah its rubbish...
I'm 17 (so only a year younger than some people)... and am in my first year at uni... and it's not so much a maturity problem, but its a socialising problem, as in i can't get into clubs/bars... or even pubs:s-smilie: , especially during the start of term, thats often where you meet people etc.

this year was the last year they were offering my course, so i couldn't take a gap year, but if that hadn't been the case, i would definitely have taken one

it'd be much better for him to.. i dunno go abroad for a year, like in a foreign school, learn a language, or do more extra curricular activities , etc.

also i agree with what people have said, a lot of people , if pushed really hard, would be able to do a levels at 15 (maybe not get into cambridge ok, but who knows?), but a lot of parents would rather their kid just enjoyed himself, and did sports/extra curriculars...

oh well... good for him anyway..;

I feel quite sorry for this guy in a way, hes got onto an amazing course granted but socially hes probably going to be quite excluded from the other students and thats half of the Uni experience wasted.

This ^.

It's a great achievement an all, but he won't even be able to go out drinking etc.

I don't drink so that's not an issue for me.

I've been extremely bored in school ever since... well always. I wasn't allowed to skip years at primary school because they worried I'd fall behind socially. Well seriously, if you're smart, you know how to make friends, so that's just silly.

I know now I am not as brilliant as I like to be and I am struggling very hard not to fail this year... but just imagine! I am only bad at two things: math and grammar. I can pass history exams with my eyes closed. If only I could have done extra math and Latin the first three years of high school, I wouldn't have needed these subsequent three years. (High school at my level is six years here in the Netherlands.)

I know everyone's unique though, and that's just me. But that's what I posted before: I would have gone to university three years early without a doubt.

Good on him, but I couldn't have coped with Uni at such a young age. Best of luck to him, he'll need it.

However intelligent he is, he sure knows how to take a good picture
Don't they usually not let you join that young? My friend got an offer there but he was in the year above me, despite being younger than me. As a result, they asked him to do a gap year until he is old enough.

Pushy parents..when will they learn?
We don't know anything about his parents, so I think it is a bad idea to make hasty and unnecessary assumptions about their role in the boy's education.

I thought you had to be at least 16 when going up, which he probably will be by the time he goes. I think there would be legal problems with a 15 year old not living under a guardian, but that may be covered by his tutor acting in the capacity of parentis loci, not sure.

"Three or four times" is an exaggeration. On average, fewer than two offers are made per place.

A 15year-old from my 6th Form has been offered a place at Cambridge University. I did Maths XL with this guy :P!

Amazing or what?

In a way I pity him, he's probably going to miss out on doing what most teenagers do. Oh well, I guess he's enjoying himself.

It's actually quite college dependant.
