While since i covered this topic, but i assume since the isomers have the potential to be highly branched the effects of auto-ignition will be reduced(increasing efficiency for petrol engines).

This is a negative effect for diesel.

Branched chain hydrocarbons, have lower boiling points due to smaller van der waals forces making them go with more of a BANG :biggrin: as less energy is required to break the bonds, basically they combusted easier :smile:
More volatile, less tendancy to pre-ignite and SHEDLIFE - it's energy to OVERCOME intermolecular forces not BREAK bonds
