H3PO4 <---> 3H+ + PO43-

thanks but also says write the three successive dissociations of phosphoric acid?
is that reacting it with water?
The above is a shorthand for: H3PO4 + 3H2O <---> 3H3O+ + PO43-

This acid has 3 protons to lose which happens in stages:

H3A ---> H+ + H2A-
H2A- ---> H+ + HA2-
HA2- ---> H+ + A3-

where A = PO4
