Hypothesis test fro normal distribution help!

Hi guys, i am struggling here with this. I thought whenever the test stastic in a normal distribution is lower than the critical value then the null hypothesis will be rejected but in a paper when the test statistic was greater than the critical value..the H0 was rejected? So can anyone please clear this doubt for me! Thank you

Depends on whether the test statistic is below or above the H0 value, i.e. the lower tail, or the upper tail. In either case, if the test statistic falls in the critical region, then the alternative hypothesis is accepted.
