Public Speaking/interviews

So, Im TERRIFIED of public speaking. Like, 've done speeches before so I know I can do them but I shake and feel really ill and sometimes I have a panic attack before hand. I have my Head Girl interview in a week and I NEED tips/help on how to stay calm and not panic before/in it. Also, if I get the role, I need to give speeches and things a lot so I will need to get used to doing these things. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

Thank you.

:wavey:Don't worry, just remember that EVERYONE gets them, but it's how you manage them!!
Here are 2 great tips which will hopefully help you!!

Number one- ALWAYS breathe:smile:.

Now the best way to breathe is from your diaphragm!!!
Your shoulders and chest area should be fairly relaxed and still. If this is challenging at first, it can be helpful to first try this exercise by lying down on the floor with one hand on your heart, the other hand on your abdomen. Watch the hand on your abdomen rise as you fill your lungs with air, expanding your chest. (The hand over your heart should barely move, if at all.)

1.

Take a slow breath in through the nose, breathing into your lower belly (for about 4 seconds).

2.

Hold your breath for 1 or 2 seconds .

3.

Exhale slowly through the mouth (for about 4 seconds) .

4.

Wait a few seconds before taking another breath.

Number two - Whenever your voice starts to shake, believe it or not, start raising your voice, that truly helps:yep:.

Watch this video too, it's really helpful!!:h:

Thank you so much! This will really help me!
I think that anxiety is before public speaking is very natural, yet with any natural reaction there is often not much you can do to stop your body responding the way it does. The way you will get better is to keep practising! If you are elected, the more speeches you do the easier it will get I promise! For now, remember to breathe deeply and embrace your nerves! It shows that you care about what you're doing  Good luck

Let me know how it went:biggrin:!!

Okay, I will do, it is next wednesday so i will let you know as soon as i can after that
Breathing technique is the key to controlling your anxiety. The timing if it is less important than where you are breathing from. Diaphragmatic breathing will naturally assist with voice loudness (the loudness comes from the diaphragm; tension in the diaphragm causes you to strain the vocal chords to make up for the overly quiet voice).

If you get the position, view your public speaking as a long term project in which you will develop public speaking skills, it won't happen overnight!
