and why

Philosophy is a good subject but isn't considered an academic one (don't know why),history is definitely the better choice. By the way, History is considered the central academic subject, History is rated higher than any other; including law, psychology and biology.

Versus is right...to a point,

I think most people would consider History as more of an academic subject though if your considering your options just go for what you would prefer, sod what others think of the subject.

i think history is immensely hard, it is so much work. you need a good teacher and to learn the proper 'history' technique to do well.
depends on your other a level choices tho, if you already have to solid academic subjects then go for philosophy

Wrong.

History and Philosophy are both highly respected academic subjects...everyone seems to be placing History above Philosophy here which isn't really the case.

Also, I don't think History is "rated higher" than Biology :lolwut:

To state that Philosophy is not considered an academic subject is absolutely absurd. Regardless of the respective difficulties of History and Philosophy at A-Level or IB, a look at any undergraduate Philosophy course will remove any doubt as to Philosophy's status a thoroughly academic subject.
The simple fact of the matter is that the sheer difficulty of Philosophy's subject matter, coupled with the rigour expected of Philosophical argument makes it easily the more academic subject that History. No historical debate, for instance, goes into such a level of detail as to require the use of symbolic logic - in Philosophy this is common.
Though some might hold the view of philosophy as a wishy-washy subject in which people vaguely contemplate the meaning of existence and there is no such thing as a right or wrong answer, nothing could be further from the truth. I would challenge such people to get their heads round ninety percent of the subject matter of most Philosophy courses, let alone, say, Kant’s Transcendental Metaphysics or Quine's 'Two Dogmas of Empiricism'.
Finally, the fact that you would cite Psychology as an example of a highly regarded academic subject reveals how little you know about what is considered serious intellectual pursuit.

History definaletly. Not really any question. Philosophy is still quite highly regarded though.
