Hey guys just a little info about Old Seabraes. Bored and figured i should do something to help you guys out. This is for old seabraes which will be the lower numbers think it should be numbers below 32. Anything over that is new Seabraes but only foreign students or post graduates stay there.
There is 7 rooms in each flat. 4 flats in each building. Room 2 is a double room with a single bed. Room 7 is a double room with double bed and all the others are singles. Its just luck what you get. The common room is at the end of seabraes and you will find it if you drive as far into seabraes as the road takes you. Not a big road but can be hectic during freshers with all the cars. Common room has reception area where you will find the janitors when you need something fixed as well as a vending machines for cans of fizzy juice, loads of chairs, an out of tune piano, Table tennis and a TV. Flat number is equal to the floor of flat e.g. flat 1 = floor 1. Pretty sure there is 8 buildings. Flats are shared between guys and girls except for flat 1 which is all guys because of a rape or something years ago... bottom floor with loads of windows.
You will get 2 keys a circular one for the front door of the building and your room door and a square one for the front door of the flat. All in all its very secure. Rooms have a bed, desk, Chair, wardrobe, pin board, ensuites with toilet and shower and walls are white and brick which make it look like a prison but you get used to it. Kitchen/sitting area has 8 electric hobs, one cooker, 2 sinks, two fridge/freezers, loads of shelves, 7 easy chairs and a coffee table but there is more than enough shelves for everyone so the earlier you are the more likely you will get loads of storage. Microwave, kettle, iron, ironing board all there to.
Old Seabraes is very strict about parking permits, after about 2 weeks or so all cars without permits get a warning ticket and then fine or worse, pretty sure a car got towed after a month or 2 last year because it wasnt moved. There is a barrier that prevents cars getting in unless they have a fob or ring the buzzer to the janitors... this can get annoying because some of them are more strict than others and require loads of details about who you are visiting etc.
Seabraes is close to the campus and therefore the Union where most of you freshers will be spending a majority of your time and funds. The union was voted the best in Scotland and 5th best in UK and the freshers line up so far is looking fantastic (Aggro Santos, Pendulum and EXAMPLE so far). Wouldnt worry about pre booking your freshers band if you are moving the first couple nights as there is always loads but remember take your keys as they were using them last year to prove who first years were... its that or you would have to take letters from uni as you dont get student id until matriculation. Skint runs on tuesdays throughout the year and is the most popular student night by far as well as pop noodle on Fridays and other events that will run throughout the year, If Union isn't what you fancy there is loads of pubs around. Laings is right beside Seabraes and is lovely as well places like the Nether Inn and cocktail bar TempleLane should all be checked out at some point... especially temple lane. There is also massive club Liquid and its baby sister Envy as well as Fat Sams and both run great student nights throughout the week. (Liquid on Wednesdays and Fat Sams on Thursday are cheap student nights). The G casino is a great place to end every night but you will need passport or Driving license to get in and register. Its impossible to get bored of the night life in Dundee.
Seabraes is great can get very rowdy at times but is actually pretty quiet during exam times. Its not on campus but is only a 2 minute walk away so you get a great location without the noise and disruption that comes with staying directly on campus. At least its not West Park. The thing about it being close to Tesco Riverside however is a lie. Their is a railway between the two and no current way to get over it which sucks. This means a 15 minute walk at least around the railway and then back along the water just to get their. Its probably as far away as the tesco metro near the overgate and is definetly further away than the new mini tesco that has just opened beside the casino.
Enjoy it guys... It will honestly be one of the best years of your life. Look forward to seeing you all at freshers.
