Not that impressed tbh....I spend about £15-20 a week, a bit less and get a much bigger variety...

I buy in bulk though, basically spend £50 on an online shop and then £10 top up....
And i cook in bulk with a stock pot...15 portions of curry/Korma easy in one cook, freeze that and next day cook 15 portions of spag bol, freeze that, etc. Then have some quick frozen food like pies, chicken kiev etc.

Korma i use patak paste(which is usually 8 portions) but with additional curry powders and spices i easily stretch it to 15 portions and it tastes awesome.

I also buy from ASDA but don't buy their ASDA smart stuff....quite a lot of it is rank...

You could easily do without dessert 7 days a week tbph :o: I never have it at uni.

live off rice, pasta, bread, milk, eggs, and oats. works out pretty cheap and you get all the calories you need. you'll have to take vitamin supplements also to make sure you get all the vitamins and ****. eat lots of eggs and drink lots of milk and you won't need much meat.

Spicy Vegetable Bacon Potato soup
Fry off bacon
Boil Potatoes
Put bacon, potatoes, vegetables, some chillis, and stock into a pan and simmer on a low heat for 2 hours.
Blend.

This sounds so good. So making that. Chilies are awesome. Not sure if I could just have soup for lunch, though :frown:

Minimum order of £25.00

Sorry but the awesomeness is cut short.

I was just about to say this.

Also OP £20 a week is not really a "budget" in the lacking sense of the word, its pretty good if you ask me. Try £10 which most students live off.

Ive survived a few weeks off less than £2. God bless 10p noodles and cheap fruit!

two words....tesco...meatballs
bread and butter pudding every day?
Tesco spaghetti ftw!
1Kg of the stuff for 94p

But it's all ready meals :frown:

Erm no? I usually just buy the nearest bag of stuff I can put in the oven, I've only went as low as ready meals a couple of times, I'd rather just have a plate of oven chips than a ready meal!

Also, really simply meals can be getting a decent tomato pasta sauce for 80p and eating that for dinner for 4 of the days...
I realise that cheaper meals can be made. But what I was trying to do, was create healthy varied meals with lots of nutrients rather than living off unhealthy stuff like frozen meals or whatever. I was also trying to make a point of keeping costs down whilst bei g resourceful. Such as buying a chicken. It allows you to still have a Sunday dinner if that's your thing, but then using the leftovers in the korma, and if you had even more leftover, in the sandwiches for your lunch. I didn't just want to say "ooo look I can live off £5 a week, and then live off frozen stuff or 9p noodles" , I wanted to prove it was easy to live nutritiously, with lots of healthy homemade food.
sounds fab. its a great idea although i don't eat much meat - only chicken. :woo:
How do you make the bread?

My past attempts have been a disaster.

A typical day:

That is a ****ing **** ton of food. If you're so poor, how come you can afford the luxury of dessert? I would save the money and get a teeny little bit more variety in my diet than two meals a week personally.
Everything at ASDA expires before it hits the shelves..
Asda smart price bleurrrgh!

This is great however you haven't put the bread and butter or cereal on the shopping list?
