AS Geog - 'why is a knowledge of coastal processes essential for coastal management?'

Hi all,

I've been set this essay, it's worth 15 marks. I have some basic ideas in my head, like linking longshore drift to the need for groynes, but not so sure what to say to make good quality points to bulk the essay fully for the 15 marks? Any help, pointers and tips would be much appreciated :smile:

Before starting the essay I would write down all the coastal processes and then how they can be managed.

Then would pick some that you think would make a 15 mark essay.

In terms of longshore drift, you can say making a decision to put groynes may be dictated by potential Terminal Groyne syndrome- increases erosion further down the coast. If you put groynes at place A, you will cause the need for management at place B.

Thanks for the replies! Getting into the essay now, it's not so bad: I just hate feeling as though I'm making wishy-washy points. Will definitely mention terminal groyne syndrome, thanks!
