Oh come on, do you honestly think the BBC just let him say it? They would have had scripts, many rehearsals and all sorts of red tape to get through before they were allowed to go live. They would have known what he was going to say long before the cameras were switched on.

It's obvious the new series of Top Gear is just around the corner, Clarkson works for the BBC, so they invite him on, say some controversial stuff, put him in the public spotlight, raise brand awareness and then, as if by magic, the new series of Top Gear starts and with record viewing figures.

Did you see the presenters face? the bbc had to issue an apology at the end of the show too.

There's a difference between a direct racist tirade on innocent bystanders and saying something tongue-in-cheek that would be fairly expected as part of his on-screen persona - presumably this is why The One Show invited him on in the first place.

in terms of freedom of speech I don't see a difference. Just because one is directly insulting and the other indirectly insulting, how is different? Obviously there is a greater severity in racism and in whatever J.Clakesons comment is classed as, but the princple is just the same imo.

It really all quite hypocritical tbh. Why can't she say what she wants to who she wants?

I will humour your ignorance by stating that capitalism is not at fault for the global crisis. It is socialism, the process of protecting people from failure that caused the bailouts to occur...

Tongue-in-cheek, google that.
He bores me to be honest. But it's Christmas so he has a job to do- sell his DVD which no doubt goes a bit like this:

Im Jeremy Clarkson....offensive joke.....fast car..... EXPLOSION......I've been Jeremy Clarkson, thanks for your money, again.

This will get him publicity in the lead up to stupid women buying a **** DVD for a bloke they know and will make it more likely that said **** DVD will be his.

Live
If anyone takes this seriously then you're a gullible ****. Have you never seen Jeremy Clarkson before? He does these over-the-top rants about things all the time. As for what he said about the 'gilt-edged pensions' and 'having to work for a living' - come on - he's not that isolated and ignorant that he actually believes those things to the extent he expresses. It's meant to be funny. If you don't find it funny then fair enough, but there are much worse things to get het up about.

Jeremy Clarkson is racist, xenophobic, homophobic, and just a disgusting man in general. Yeah, he might just be trolling, but the BBC shouldn't pay him £1m a year for it.
Original post by ThePropheticNomad
Has he worked a full day in his life to put food on the table, whilst battling fears of unemployment, falling wages/inflation and getting screwed over re. pensions?

i wonder if the strikers know that by striking, britain is missing out on valuable production and contribution to GDP - contribution which might stop the government from having to keep cutting their pensions and public spending in order to combat the economic problems mentioned O_o
Clearly a joke, but not a very good one.
How can anyone take this seriously? Lefties are more retarded than i thought.

He doesn't get paid £1m for it though. He gets paid that for hosting one of the most successful shows the BBC has produced for years. I don't get why people are calling for him to be sacked.

Oh but the right wingers are equally retarded 1, 2

Ha, it's funny (well not so much funny as desperately tragic) that in certain parts of the world that is what happens to workers who go on strike for better conditions and trade unionists. I swear once upon a time to be funny you had to actually have wit and talent, rather than simply a knack for saying twatttish and obnoxious things?

EDIT: And since when did having a "gilt edged pension" (if that's what you call it) mean that you don't "work for a living"? What is he on about?

I agree. I am presuming it wasn't ironic. But Clarkson annoys me, he's a nob.

but it thought the public sector was unproductive  btw pension contributions are to cost less as a % of gdp.

the second one is clearly OTT, rather than a one off joke it seems to be a personal vendetta towards a vulnerable old lady but i agree yes the reaction to the first one was cringeworthy.

Everything is always post-ironic now, so people can get away with saying offensive things and blur the lines between whether it's meant.

I think it's pretty clear that he's joking here... I don't think anyone could say "while the rest of us have to work for a living" if they're a TV presenter without any sense of irony. He's got a cushy job and he knows it. Plus, it's classic Jeremy Clarkson.

I think it's post irony, he isn't really joking. These people do think they've worked their arses off for the salary and life they have.
