Online Porn Ban

Btw the reason the govt is considering banning it because a study was carried out which found harmful consequences. I'm not saying whether the results were unbiased or biased because I don't know but here is an article on it - http://www.medicaldaily.com/news/20120419/9603/internet-porn-pornography-children-uk.htm
There is no need for a porn ban. When I was under age (as in before I started masturbating in my teens) I took no interest in porn. I actually kept myself busy with Pokemon and other children's entertainment. I think if someone wants porn then why stop them? Children don't have the human right to have internet access. I did not need the internet before my teens. Young kids don't need the internet. I didn't need wikipedia or similar sources or needed to even look at newspaper articles (if someone starts saying 'oh we've moved on and the resources are online now') for references when I was pre-pubescent.

Since looking at porn during my teens I can safely say that I have not harmed myself. When people at school tricked me into Googling 'Hairy' unfiltered I guess I did grow up a little bit but I knew it was wrong and didn't stare avidly into the monitor.

I can't speak for everyone, but surely my experience counts as evidence for not banning porn. It's like with video games, people say that it's 'teaching kids to murder and be violent' when really it's the parents who teach kids to murder and be violent, should there be any such effect, as they're the ones not stopping them from playing any games. As for me, with my Goldeneye sessions with my dad, I was taught to 'kill responsibly'.

It has been stated that I have no evidence on the damaging effects of porn. Here is the full independent report which contains substantial evidence on the damaging effects of porn on society. Well known psychologists and academics were consulted in the making of this report: http://www.claireperry.org.uk/downloads/independent-parliamentary-inquiry-into-online-child-protection.pdf
Put it this way, if people don't have access to it, they will make it.

Happened when America tried to ban alcohol
Happens in the UK with gun laws people obtaining guns
Will happen with porn

If people want it, they WILL get it. Even so much so as people, especially kids wanting to experiment. All this will do is drive up crime rates.

Fine why don't we legalise heroine so as not to drive up the crime rate? This is silly-you don't solve social problems by legalizing them-is everyone going soft in the head? To be honest I think the only reason people oppose the porn ban is because they are porn users and don't want anyone to come along and change that. I personally am waiting for this ban-I think it's a smart move by the PM and frankly I'm sick of hearing all this liberal tripe all the time about human rights and freedom of speech etc it's effing retarded like children can just decide whether or not to look at porn. I personally am looking forward to a crack down on all the BS splattered over the internet and will be glad to see this new law implemented.
Then what would happen to things like The Sun newspaper?
I am assuming that would take a MASSIVE blow and cost many hundreds/thousands jobs. =l
Besides, you haven't mentioned ANYTHING ELSE other than porn which is apparently "damaging children's health". What about bullying, pressures of school, peer pressure, family issues etc...

All of these are important issues. They are all interconnected with media though. Once media influences are controlled people's behaviour and mindset can be altered. When media displays positive things: programs with kindness, good morals etc then this will change social values and transform society. I believe the influence of mass media on society is absolutely massive-perhaps the most important influence on society's values and behaviours this is why it is important to regulate it-Porn is one aspect that needs to be regulated but I believe that every aspect of mass media should be carefully regulated by an independent body of psychologists.

Ban video nasties! A minor could watch boxing though, which I find a bit odd if people wish to protect children of all ages. There does appear to be a rather large focus on sexual content to the expense of other pressing issues.

Tbh **** food for kids damage their health more. If we believe in a nanny state endorsed drive to protect children's health, then perhaps I will see fewer fat kids going to school.

This is a good point. Likely as not we'll end up with home-made child porn produced for children, by children.

I think it's possibly the most stupid thing he could do. He'll upset a lot of the electorate, and achieve nothing.

If you're sick of hearing this 'liberal tripe' I suggest you emmigrate. Iran doesn't have much truck with human rights, would you rather that style of government?

Ok Nonotrly do you support movies where racists take poor black people and pay them to urinate and defecate on them? (guess what there is a porn site that does this-if you don't think that this is clearly wrong then you are devoid of morals as far as I am concerned) Also why should there be a legal age for sexual consent if a child agrees to have sex with an adult then this is fine right? If the child doesn't like it they can just not do it again. Surely banning these forms of freedom of expression would also be unfair censorship no? These are very similar to the arguments that you have made so far. Where do you draw the line and why?

The law already takes into account mental age and circumstances regarding cases of sex with an under-16. Some people will be charged and found guilty, some won't. There's a legal age, but generally it is a guide, which is why under-13s is taken far more seriously than under-16s in this country.

Your logic is that DVDs should be banned because a guy made 'bumfights' DVDs, which is ludicrous.
