Can anyone help me out on the 7th question of the june 2007 c3 paper, its part (a) thats confusing... plz help is much appreciated.

Hey! I have C3 this morning also, going to be fun!

Anyway, what you want to do is to first of all combine the two fractions...

This leaves you with sin^2+cos^2 on the top (which equals one) and sin x cos on the bottom. Do you know your identites sunny Jim? 2sinxcosx = sin2x

Sub that in and you are left with 1/0.5sin2x, which of course equals 2/sin2x = 2cosec2x
