Nice! I don't really know what to expect tbh - any ideas?

No idea either apart from the brief description we were given.. A lecture, some past Olympiad questions, then a chance to talk to some undergrads. Oh and lunch! Looking forward to meeting others and hopefully being in the vicinity itself will further motivate me to keep studying.

Nice, yeah I'm coming all the way up from Dorset so it's a bit of a trek. It will hopefully be worth it though!

Is anyone going to the chemistry masterclass btw?

I am! I think there's a handful of us on here who are going.

Engineering, and you? Peterhouse is probably in the no. 1 spot for me at the moment but I need to visit a few colleges.

Poofterhouse for Engineering? You lazy b@stard, you. You do know that the record time to get to an engie lecture from Peterhouse is one minute, right?

No offence of course, I'm a fellow prospective Petrean myself. Pip pip, old boy!

Pembroke looks great apart from smoking permitted in all rooms, I hate smoke

Peterhouse looks great aside from smoking permitted in no rooms at all. I chain-smoke. That said, I'm choosing to embrace the rainbow and apply to Peterhouse, smoking or no smoking.

What Cambridge college ISN'T competitive? :eyeball:

The girls' colleges (Hurry Bedwards and Lucy Cav), the former girls' colleges (GIRTON), St Edmund's, and Peterhouse are fairly non-competitive. Well, at least in the 70's, Peterhouse was competitive in a somewhat different way: nuts to academia, but you had to be high-bred if not high-born, and with a case of chronic backstabbing disorder as well as possibly alcoholism and homosexuality. Also a Tory, but that was certainly true ONLY in the 70's.

On the other hand, Trinity, John's, Emma, and Pembroke are INSANELY competitive.

Christ no I have no idea

Hmm, you might be happy at, yes, Christs, Corpus Christi, or Emmanuel

My point was that it's Cambridge; it's all competitive.

Nice to see someone else considering Peterhouse. It's quite small but that sort of suits me. What course are you thinking of?

Law here. Also at Peterhouse. Dives in omnia!

Yes, the size was a huge point for me---I love to socialise and know everyone in my year, the year above, and the year below. The conservatism was a bit of a point, as I don't want to go to a college where everyone is a black feminist Communist lesbian. The wealth of a college was a big point for me, as this means cheap rents. Plus I don't want anything TOO high on the Table---a bit of pressure is a good thing, but not when it comes to revising for exams!

Wooo! Peterhouse!

Woooo indeed.
Would it be of a great advantage to hold a position of responsibility in my school next year? Head girls, social services? That sort of thing? Or do Cambridge not particularly care for this

they'll hold it in the same regard as doing any other extracurricular activity, unless it's somehow related to your course ... but it's still good - shows time management and commitment, and would definitely appeal to the other choices you put down

Well, i did debate and other random assorted things and by a stretch of logic, i managed to relate it to psychology in my personal statement. It's easier cos psychology is such a broad field. Anyway, I guess forming that link in your essay is just as important as doing the activity itself.

Probably won't make any difference.

I am doing 4 AS this year, hopefully applying for BioNatsci but Materials looks really interesting and having physics will probably help, surely.. I guess the interview would not include physics anyway like you said - but thanks you made it clearer!

If you put BioNatSci on the SAQ then they won't give you a physics interview.
