But the woman could programme the guy exactly to her liking If in 100 years time women continue to make their own money they wouldn't need anyone to provide for them the robots could do all the cleaning massage your back always want to kiss and cuddle always want to please you in bed etc.

Doesn't matter, most women want someone better in every way, it's instinctual. Millionaire women want millionaire men, there are surveys, studies etc. They want charming, intelligent, funny, confident, high status etc. Unless you can trick the female mind with some sort of implant to believe the guy is all those things then yes. Otherwise, no.

The site surveyed a random sample of nearly 15,000 of their members in order to discern what type of people millionaires prefer to date. The results revealed that the vast majority of millionaire men, 79.6 percent, seek out non-millionaire women, while 84.5 percent of the female millionaires would prefer to date another millionaire.

Townsend (1989) surveyed medical students regarding their perception of how the availability of marriage partners changed as their educational careers advanced. Eighty-five percent of the women indicated that "As my status increases, my pool of acceptable partners decreases" (p. 246). In contrast, 90% of men felt that "As my status increases, my pool of acceptable partners increases" (p. 246).[11]

JamieTT is probably ordering one as we speak.
We're not all after status. My boyfriend struggles more than me financially, and I quite often support him with money. That's not a problem to me.

No. It would be cool for about two days.
Apparently this is already (kind of) happening in Japan.

Do you think robots will eventually replace spouses for companionship & sex etc?
Think about it, women complain they can't get a man who understands them, isn't a perv etc, and men moan that women aren't submissive enough, nag too much, don't want sex enough but if fully functioning AI robots were invented, humans would actually be able to design their own perfect girlfriend or boyfriend. What do you think? Will it ever take off?

Very easily no.
Of course not. I still have my common sense and desire for a REAL human being.

For guys, maybe; for women, I doubt it. Each sex generally wants different things from a relationship - women tend to want companionship and validation; men tend to want affection and sex. Men's needs are probably more able to be satisfied by technology than women's, so I see it as more likely that men will be satisfactorily catered for first.
At the moment robots look way too creepy. I'm sure it'll be perfected soon but there has to be a lot of work done to the voice and the face movements. Even the skin might always be way too plastic and rough and dry.
No.

Definitely not. As much as I love my toys, I dont think robots can provide the same companionship and/or intimacy, than a person can

And to be pedantic, surely the mechanics of sex wouldn't work? It'd be someone and a piece of metal/plastic or whatever
I agree that there could be a market, but only for a very limited proportion of the population. It would most likely appeal to those who are unable to get the real thing. For example, people who do not conform to society and therefore have a lower chance of meeting a potential partner; or those who don't have high self confidence so the no emotions/human interactions may be seen as desirable. But this limited proportion would only be available to people with a lot of money, which would reduce the market even more. And if you have a serious amount of money anyway, wouldn't you be more likely to find a 'gold digger' or even hire a prostitute in order to actually experience the real thing?
