Is voting for the Green party pointless?

Well, neither labour or conservatives are going to have enough seats for a majority, so you could argue that the small parties are going to be even more important in this election.

Vote for what's right. (I'm going to vote for the Green Party). They are the only party with decent morals. To be honest it's mainly their animal welfare policies that persuaded me to vote for them. Please think of the animals and the environment! lol x

Yeah sure... But is it not going to be a wasted vote if conservative/labour are gonna dominate anyway

If everyone who isn't choosing to vote on Thursday voted the outcome could be completely different. If people like you had a little faith and voted for what you believe in the outcome could be completely different... See the pattern? Besides, who in their right mind would vote for Labour? x

More just idiotic.

It depends on your constituency. If greens are competing in the polls in your area then go ahead. If the conservatives are close to another party then vote the other party (assuming they're are any better).
In my constituency Labour and Conservatives are pretty close so I'm possibly wasting a vote by choosing Liberal Democrats - if it's like this in your area then like me - if you pick the green party - it's a pretty wasteful vote.

i'm voting green, every other party in central or right, and i don't think that would make society any fairer or safer.The other parties are quite happy to cut young people off any income if they can't find work (labour policy) , and tuition fees are still in place to discourage social mobility (only green seems to care about this). Also i believe austerity is a complete and utter lie, it was invented by very very wealthy people to control our population. Disabled and ill have been cut off and stressed enough as it is, resulting in deaths many which have been swept under the carpet (labour introduced assessments on this).

I cannot morally vote for a party that has a proven track record of lying and basically harming of it's own people, or any people.

Good points. What would you say to all the people out there that say that was the old Labour and Miliband and the new labour party wont possibly make the same mistakes?

labour are as much influenced by business, corporation and banks as the Cons, whom they are funded by, they recognize now that there is a demand for a fairer slightly more socialist choice. Hence why they have moved more central.
They are offering little goodies now but in power you will hear the 'oh no the deficit' and it will be the young and the sick who will pay again. I have not heard anything of 'We are not new labour any more, we are back as old labour lol'.

but if Dennis Skinner was in charge then i would re-consider :smile:

Is voting the Greens pointless?

No, it could have a big impact on the election out come.

I'd ask someone considering to vote Green who they might vote for if they did not vote Green. I'd imagine the answer for a lot of people may be Labour.

The reality is, this election is very close and who is able to form the next Government will come down to two things: firstly the party which has the most seats, and secondly the party with the most votes.

Under my assumption, it's easy to see that a vote for the Green Party reduces the overall votes Labour will get. It could also impact the number of seats Labour win - in Labour-marginal seats a few extra votes for the Greens could push Labour in to second place and allow someone else to win.

The overall impact of this could lead to the Conservatives having more seats or more votes than Labour - or both.

So a vote for the Greens could have a massive impact on the election and allow the Conservatives form the next Government.

So ask yourself what you want to see after Thursday - the Conservatives with the biggest mandate to form Government, or Labour?

If you vote for Greens, you directly increase the chances the Conservatives have that mandate.

No it's not pointless but I think we need to be clever about these things at this election.

In my opinion if a vote for the Greens means a constutuency less for Labour then we're giving the Conservatives more of a chance of making it into number 10.

Whoever it is in number 10 will be the ones making the decisions that'll have nationwide repercussions so it'll be all very nice having one Green MP but if that means a helping hand for the Conservatives at this election then it certainly isn't the right thing to do.

So I urge you to Vote Labour

Look what you have to recognise about the parties who've been in government on and off for decades is they have a lot to juggle this can come across as being nothing other than centre. But if you peel back the veneer of the front bench the Labour Party and the Conservatives, they're worlds apart. Labour's heart is in the right place. As are the greens except at this election the only way they're going to be forming part of a left leaning coalition is if Ed is able to make that happen. We have to make sure that's possible by voting Labour.

Only an idiot wouldn't understand why someone would vote Labour particularly at this election where people are considering playing things tactically or they want a left leaning coalition. Exactly what planet are you on?

I would argue that voting for any party that isn't the big two is the best thing to do, not neccisarily for this election, but for the future.

With each hung parliment, or issue with votes vs MPs, the case for PR becomes stronger.

Whether we get a Labour or Tory this election is unlikely to change much, but if we end up with PR the country will be far better because of it.

Nonsense. There's a handful of seats where voting Green might get you a Tory MP rather than Labour, you could consider voting tactically for the lesser of two evils there. Anywhere else, you're free to vote for whoever you believe in. If Labour and their voters had any intregity they'd stick to promoting their policies as a way to win votes, not constantly attacking other parties and scaremongering.
