Does the swear filter serve any real use?

Title says it all.

It does.

As a 9 year old, I just had someone try to swear at me but luckily I didn't know what the 4 stars **** meant so that means I can't learn it and use it myself.

1) As if they don't know what is being censored
2) Youngest students using this, I'd assume, are like 15.. Do they really need to be "protected"?
No it ****ing doesn't.

****,
If anything it just emphasises the swear word imo.
Prevents the site being swear-locked by firewalls on school
and college networks.

No younger than 14. Anyone younger than that would be a very small minority of users, and my first point still stands

No younger than 14.

...... Please stop being ignorant.

I've got first hand experience with a 11 year old on here who was looking at a thread for a maths exam he sat & there isn't anything stopping even younger children registering and viewing these forums so yes there is a huge need for a swear filter.

Edited my post before you replied, but:

LOL, 11 year olds say **** and other swear words all the time. Some people are in denial I guess.

Agreed

still? What don't you understand. As long as there is this minority that still has access to the forums then there needs to be a swear filter. Until there is something preventing them from viewing the forums such as consent from parent/guardian or an actual age restriction then this small minority still needs to be accounted for and can't simply be ignored.

Yeah not all 11 year olds swear.

It's a censorship tool for the online police.

So we should ban under 18s from having pictures or PM facilities because pedos have access to the forum? Even if there was an age restriction, what's to stop them lying about their age? I know I did when I was 11/12..

Yeah not all 11 year olds swear.

Didn't say *all of them swore. But all 11 year olds have heard those words and know what they mean. Censoring swear words is pretty much the same as censoring porn from teenagers - not all of them watch it regularly but most of them do and **** to it meanwhile it's illegal. No kid has ever stopped watching a movie because it was rated R either.

All this censorhip and rating just gets sillier and sillier.. some people must have had a very sheltered upbringing.

LOL
thats far from equivalent to what were talking about. People have a choice to upload pictures of themselves just as they have a choice to reveal personal information on social media.
If your 11 and looking at an exam thread you don't have a choice to not be exposed to swear words.

If they lie about their age ? Well thats a whole new discussion.... and it is irrelevant because we don't have one here anyways! But if there was one then TSR isn't really to blame because they would make it clear about the content that would be viewable before hand.
