Well, that makes it quite all right, of course.

Seriously, though, I thought billydisco was a CompSci student?

At least I fit one of the three criteria for posting in here. Grumpy Old Graduate. Stop seeing the good side in people.

Ilex - just looked at those entry exams for All-Souls! Hmmmm is all I can say LOL

Quite like the general papers though.
I just got initial feedback on that essay and the woman doesn't even appear to have read it! Argh!
Which all souls entry exams? Linky?

Lol, the general papers are awesome. Shame there aren't things for my subject. I'd have loved to try just for a laugh. Had a look at philosophy and English and would have been able to give a couple of things a go, but sadly they'd be ****e.

The context in which you brought it up unintentionally(?) implied that her being about to qualify as a barrister somehow made her ridiculous posts all right.
Just to clarify, though, you were actually talking about billydisco, right?

The one that made me laugh was, for my subject, the fact that equality and priority kept coming up again and again. Now within political philosophy the priority argument is pretty niche and if you're going to argue for absolute intervention levels rather than pure egalitarianism sufficiency is usually used, so why does it keep popping up every year? Might it have something to do with the fact that Derek Parfit, the author of the priority argument, is a senior fellow at All Souls Oxford? Nah, surely not.

Also, that Eminem question was a classic.

I think I'd do ok with the Eminem question. Just argue that no, he's not the new Elvis, but rather he's the new Johnny Cash, insofar as he has striven to, within a genre, bring rather radical ideas into a conservative space, that he has become the voice of those who would have been blue-collar workers would post-industrialism not taken hold, whereas Elvis was a defender (through his image) of conservative and bigoted values :p:. That being said, I know **** all about popular music.

I love them all. I so wish I'd got a first so I could have gone for this. Wouldn't have stood a chance, but I'd have interesting answers to the economics and general papers. Not so sure on the one word one. When it was "water" I could have done an interesting essay on the commercialisation of water, it being used as a commodity and why a lot of arguments about the lack of water in the developing world miss the point. But on something like "integrity" I'd have been pretty stumped.

He did say "no no. Not billy disco, I don't much about her", so I'd presume not.

But a first isn't actually a requirement. Most of the candidates will have one, of course, but people who got 2.1s can and do take the exam.

Then why did he keep posting about this random other person when it was dead obvious that everybody else WAS talking about billydisco?

Shame she can't write a decent argument then, isn't it...
