Random Questions

I need some help on the following questions. I need to choose the ONE INCORRECT option for each. All help is much appreciated.

(1) General anaesthetics:
A. Are competitive blockers of the sodium-potassium ATPase
B. Include halothane and isoflurane
C. Block sodium channels
D. Are lipid soluble

(2) A nerve/muscle preparation, loaded with a Ca2+ sensitive dye, shows a localized rise
of fluorescence at the neuromuscular junction when subject to either electrical
stimulation of the nerves or application of acetylcholine. Plausible explanations
include:
A. Calcium permeation of the pore of nicotinic receptors
B. Calcium entry into the nerve terminal and the muscle cell
C. Direct activation of pre-synaptic calcium channels by acetylcholine
D. Electrical activity promotes Ca2+ entry into muscle or nerve but it is hard to resolve
which.

(3) The following techniques expose the subject to radiation:
A. Double label immunofluorescence
B. Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI)
C. Computer tomography
D. Positron emission tomography

(4) In Aplysia, repeated stimulation of the siphon induces:
A. Sensitisation of the gill withdrawal reflex
B. Habituation
C. Changes which can be reversed by an electric shock to the head
D. A decrease in neurotransmitter release

(5) Key advantages of using invertebrates to study learning and memory include the:
A. Simple nervous systems they possess
B. Prevalence of large diameter neurones
C. Accessibility of ganglia
D. Lack of chemical synapses

thanks

1) A
2) C (not sure... but I don't think acetylcholine directly activates Ca2+ receptors)

any ideas for questions 3, 4 and 5?
Reply 3
3) B
4) C or D (I know a and b are correct, but unsure of the other 2)
5) D i think

I would have gone with C for 3 - computer tomography, if I remember correctly, involves a series of x-rays, hence radiation, as opposed to a magnetic field (B)
