And your point is?
The Soviet union is not the only application of communism that failed horribly. By blaming the failed application of your ideology, are you thereby making it more legitimate? I don't understand.

It's not my ideology but I agree the general criticisms of capitalism Marx had. From that same perspective you can look at and analyse the soviet union and come to the conclusion that is is a dungeon on Marxist terms of analysis.

I'm just pointing at that you can look at the soviet union from a Marxist perspective and see how awful it is. Also social democracy has it's routes in Marxism as does left communism.

Also whilst it isn't a Marxist critique it is a socialist critique of the soviet Union.

I didn't claim it was your ideology, sorry. It's just the person I used to address the question.

I didn't look at the soviet union alone, I looked at a broader range of applications of Communism (China too).

I am aware, to a limited extent though, of Marxist critique of Communism. I happen to criticise both in various instances. Given that socialism has a bountiful of sub-disciplines, some contradicting others, I have not made my mind up on it (am extensively studying it now for my degree anyway), though I have yet to declare myself a follower of any ideology alone.

Edit: I can't take Chomsky seriously, sorry. Whenever lecturers/academia are trying to spoon feed me his theories, I just feel like this

That's a good state of being to be in

To put it another way, from a Marxist perspective, I would rather live in a developed liberal-democracy with a mixed economy than a Leninist dictatorship.

If I was asked what my political ideology is, I would have to say that I'm a communist. Funnily enough, most people don't like that, and it often doesn't give me a great reception. But meh, life goes on.

Anyway, I'm really interested in politics, so I was just wondering, what are your personal opinions about it?[/QUOT
I think communism is an utopia that we should strive for, I dont believe in pure communism tho, more socialsm. Obviously it can easily end up as a dictatorship which ironically is not what communism is about at all. I dont think communism works in the real world unless the whole world participates in the ideology. But this is just my personal belief
