Judicial Appointments HELP

Hi, please come someone explain the basics for judicial appointments? I'm resisting unit 2 politics and it never got taught and my textbook is outdated. Thanks:smile:

It used to be that the Lord Chancellor was responsible for all judicial appointments. Following the Constitutional Reform Act of 2005 though, an independent Judicial Appointments Commission was set up, which oversees all judicial appointments and makes them based on merit. The Prime Minister technically still has final veto over all judicial appointments though.
