Career as a pharmacist with a criminal record?

I don't want to go into to much detail but if you guys want to know I will tell you everything.
I am currently under investigation for a situation that occured when I was a typical teenager in college. I had suffered from depression, I failed my A levels so I had to do an access course and I was busy looking after my clinically depressed mother, severley disabled brother and baby sister at the same time as struggling to make something of myself as my dad worked 24/7 I was pretty much the man of the house. Exams and coursework used to stress me out so much that I turned to online communites for friendship to help my loneliness and stress, sites like omegle and 4chan. Where I had met a few "good" guys (so I thought foolishly) and we would all post things on forums and chat, until one day they were sharing porn and I became addicted to legal porn (i.e pornhub) and they posted up certain links to download files and dropboxes. I thought it was safe so I downloaded them, These turned out to be porn (personal sex vids and selfies) of very young teen girls and at first I shook it off because they were just nudes I mean which teens like myself don't send and receive nudes?? So I shook it off and convinced myself that it was fine. But it gets worse :frown: these guys turned out to be creepy 30-40 yr old nonces who then posted more porn but of children!! the worst thing is one of the guys I got close too had all my personal details and began blackmailing me when I ignored him and started deleting the files from my PC. He kept contacting me and tried to gain access t my facebook, so I just cut him off and never returned to the site again. I got on with life, even though I was scarred for life. A few moths down the line I get accepted into uni to do pharmacy, but the police turn up at my door because cybercrime and CEOP had traced my IP in relation to indecent images of a young girl being leaked online. So they seized my pc and now I will answer bail next week. Is my career as a pharmacist over? I have informed the uni ages ago, they understand but told me it is down to the GPhC to decide :frown: I have since been clinically depressed and idk what to do. If I get put on the sex offenders register, can I still study at uni? and can I never ever register?

That is honestly a tough one. In fairness I would say it is as you would fail safeguarding for children (which is essential now) + you need a clean enhanced DBS (which flags / fails you for this sort of thing). In fact, you would prettymuch be barred from working in healthcare in the UK I am afraid.

If you are convicted and are given a criminal record, then yes, you won't be able to practise pharmacy.

To be honest my friend, pharmacy is a dead career. It's like a factory, churning out prescriptions like a machine.

I suggest you apply for some finance/economics related degrees, learn how the stock market works and make some real money. This may be a blessing in disguise.

Curious to know why these professions dont do DBS checks. I know a guy who had multiple police problems (drug related though) and he is currently working as an investment banker in london.

My career is over :frown: fml whats the point in even revising for these uni exams

I only have a science qualification, I cannot enter finance or economics :frown:

as @tpx1 said, you would be barred from working in healthcare. In fact it is a bit more serious than that as you would also be barred from working in social care and even volunteer work as well so you definitely need to look for another career (Id say finance is lax on stuff) but you wouldnt be allowed to work as a police officer or a teacher

Can't I do a biomedical science/pharmacology degree? and work in industry? I worked my ass off to get here and no it's all over, honestly I don't see the point in life anymore

I don't get how it is your fault though. You aren't exactly the one uploading the child porn. If this went to court, I think you would come out of it ok.

different poster... (spoiler, not the OP, I am anonymous as I dont like people seeing me criticise other peoples professions on TSR)

you would have to speak with a uni tbh. but any patient facing role you would be barred from + the pharmacy degree itself has work experience in patient facing roles

I will arrange something with the uni, I currently work in one of the largest community pharmacies in my city, I manage the dispensers too and honestly I am no problem I wish they could see that

Exactly!! It will definitely go to court, so I have to pray for the bes. My lawyer said the exact same thing but because I saw and downloaded them (regardless of me downloading them uknowingly) I will still be charged with possession. Uploading would be a charge of distribution I guess. It's strange but look at this case
http://www.pharmaceutical-journal.com/news-and-analysis/news/restoration-of-former-pharmacist-must-await-his-removal-from-sex-offenders-register/10020872.article

He is still allowed to practice after he is free from the register even though he PHYSICALLY assaulted a child sexually
It's not fair for any of us to speculate
The best thing to do is speak to a good solicitor for advice not us.
If what you say is true then to some extent you are also a victim. Your browser history will show up everything, that you were interested in adult porn, were blackmailed and did not seek child pornography.
The cps may not even prosecute
Specialist legal advice is what you need. You can't make any decisions yet.
Concentrate on passing your exams. You will still have a degree and transferable skills.
It's not over yet

Uni wise, they will make you do something called a fitness to practice assessment, which is literally like a pseudo court interview (with lecturers on course) where you have to more or less argue you case etc. as a pharmacist (if you become one), you would be asked to go to GPhC fitness to practice.

I hope they see that I visited all those legal adult websites and that I didn't use any search terms of such and had no intention of seeking images of children. I gave all the possible details to my duty solicitor and hopefully he will work it all out for me.
I don't know if I can revise, I try but I feel so weak. I have a 1st in most of my coursework so hopefully if I screw up my exams I will still pass. I just want to focus on passing this year.

The uni did mention this, if this really is the case then I will fight with my life because I am very determined to be a pharmacist it is my dream career. So can I provide references from other people? how will I convince them?

You should be as involved with your solicitor as you can. Keep contacting him and ho through everything.
Try your hardest to get through your exams
You may also wish yo contact your gp to arrange some emotional support
If you are genuinely innocent of this then hopefully it will become clear and resolve itself
It's a lesson learned I hope for anyone reading this thread
It's said over and over. You don't know who you're dealing with on line

My solicitor cannot talk to me until I answer bail
I am on anti depressants and talking to the lucy faithfull foundation about it all too
I am innocent but I feel so guilty, I should of told someone at the time, I shouldnt of convinced myself in the first place, I should of read up on so much but I was naive

I would say try getting references (employment, character etc) but the processes vary from place to place. sometime (weith GPhC ones anyways) ou are allowed a lawyer. Uniwise no idea I am afraid
DBS checks show all convictions whether spent or unspent. However, if you only have one non custodial conviction it will only appear for 6 years if you were under 18 when convicted. If you were over 18 when convicted it will appear for 11 years.

How old are you? Just curious. If you don't mind me asking.

Do you know what you should do? You should go to therapy to get rid of the porn addiction of yours because it might creep back on you. Anyways porn is generally not good for the health and psychology. And don't forget you got in trouble with the law.
