Catalan independence

What are your thoughts on the catalonia independence movement? What about the spanish goverment's attempt to prevent the refenrendum?

I can't say I've been pressed against the glass keeping up to date with it, however I do believe that the Spanish governments reaction, especially regarding police response, has been unprecedented, at the end of the day the people have a right to let their feelings be known, they deserve a voice and they shouldn't be beaten for protesting.
They should get their independence. Yes, they should have abided by the fact the referendum was unconstitutional,but the government's use of power was wrong.
I think that if a real election or debates were allowed, then it would be a far less contravertial topic then the mess it's turned into now
