aperture

i'm doing some revision and i cant seem to understand what my book means by aperture, says the if i want to send a signal to a small location i need a large aperture

but what is aperture?

i thought it was to do with photos, is it to do with the curve of a dish?

aperture = hole. The aperture is the "slit" for example in the 2 slit experiment, or in photographs its the hole the light passes through onto the paper/CCD (like a pinhole in the really early cameras).
