To make alkenes you dehydrate alcohols using acid catalysts,
To hydrate alkenes you can use the same type of catalyst to produce alcohols

So dehydrate alchol using h2so4 gives alkene

Then add h2so4 to but-2-ene to hydrate it into buta-2ol correct ?

You add H2O to but-2-ene to hydrate it using h2so4 as a catalyst giving you butan-2-ol
The catalyst has no part in the reaction so you add water to hydrat, and take water away to dehydrate. The sulphuric acid can be the catalyst both ways.
