I’ve put sussex as my first choice for my uni offers and i can’t decide between these two accommodations. i want to be in a flat where it is v social and easy to make friends and i would prefer to have an en suite but i would go to which ever is better! does anyone have recommendations?

Hello, myself I have lived in Northfield for a couple of years, so I can tell you that the flats are generally very social... Although, obviously this has been less of a case this year, due to Covid-related restrictions. Overall, I doubt you will find that much of a difference in terms of socialising potential, between the two types of accommodation you are currently considering... Living in either is likely to provide you with plenty of opportunities to meet and spend time with new people, whether they are your flat-mates, or neighbours... Perhaps the only difference is the number of flat mates you will live with: in Northfield it is generally 6 people per flat, whereas in East Slope, it is usually 10 people per flat.

Regarding the en-suites, I would say you are more likely to get one if you choose Northfield as your first choice, since all Northfield flats are en-suite, whereas majority of East Slope Flats have shared-bathrooms. Although, you do only share with 2-3 people, so it really depends on whether you would be ok with that or not...

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hey! Just to add to what Kasia has already said, if an en-suite is something that's important to you then Northfield would be a great choice since they are all en-suites, so you'd be guaranteed your own bathroom if accepted into Northfield. Like Kasia, I have also lived here which was was in a flat of 6 too, and for me it had the balance of being social but not too hectic.

In East Slope you would live with more people but may not necessarily have an en-suite, but you would however be much more central on campus than Northfield which is more on the outskirts, about 10 mins away from lectures from my experience. I personally liked this as it meant Northfield felt like its own distinct area of campus and it had a community feel to it, but if being close to your classes and places like the on campus co-op are important to you, then East Slope would be a good choice.

It's ultimately down to preference but both are great, one of my friends lived in East Slope during my 1st and 2nd year and I visited him often and really liked my experience there. Regardless of which one you pick, I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay there

I hope this was useful but if you do have any further Qs, please don't hesitate to get in touch!
