M1 A1 in math markschemes

What do they mean?
If we get the final answer with half the working do we still get full marks?
(edited 1 year ago)
M1 means a mark for workings and A1 is a mark for the correct answer
I think that generally you need to show the workings specified by M1 marks to get full marks in a question but there are other methods than those on the markscheme allowed ( and in actual gcse the marks schemes are crazy long anyway so)

I generally would say you couldn't get the mark with half the working although idk it might be different for different exam boards

"M" marks are method marks, "A" marks are accuracy marks. (There are other kinds as well.)

Sometimes you can get both just for a correct answer, sometimes not. It depends on how likely it is that you could get the answer without using a correct method. Always safer to show some working!
