My preference is ACA, because it's more highly regarded in the UK.

ACCA is widely accepted in various countries though. However, within the same country ACA is recognised alongside ACCA, ACA and its equivalent is more highly recognised e.g. if you have ACCA and you intend to work in Australia, the Australian CPA will be more appreciated than the ACCA (according to various opinions). If you have an ACA in Australia, it's considered equivalent to Australia CPA through the MRA between Australia CPA and ICAEW.

Having said that, there's nothing stopping you from getting both. I would just finish one before doing the other because you would only need to do 3-4 exams that way as opposed to doing another 13/15 exams.

As a fully qualified CA (Chartered Accountant - Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, who were the original chartered accountants) said to me, once you are qualified, it does not matter which body you qualified with (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/ICAS/ICAI). It comes down to opportunity, personal preference and location.
